Windows Explorer

Windows offers a nice GUI method of navigating the file system called Windows Explorer. It looks something like this:

Every time you open up My Documents, C:\, or even click on something on your desktop, you are using Explorer.

Explorer is not Internet Explorer

Despite the similarities of their names, Windows Explorer is not the same thing as Internet Explorer - they are different programs. They can, however, call up one another: if you enter a website URL into the Explorer address bar, it will transform into Internet Explorer. Similarly, if you enter a file path (e.g. C:\Program Files) into the IE address bar, it will turn back into Explorer. This feature is both useful and confusing.
