Windows Files and Settings Transfer Wizard

The Windows Files and Settings Transfer Wizard is located at Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools

File Settings Transfer

Once you start the wizard, you must choose whether or not you are on the old computer or the new computer.

Old Computer

  1. Select Old Computer and click Next

  2. Select a method for backing up your files and settings. Here we chose to back it up to a folder named "Stuff" on the C drive.

  3. Next you want to choose which files and/or settings you want to transfer. In the screenshot below, we're transfering everything.

  4. After this, you're done. The collection phase will then begin. This process of collecting the files may take a few minutes to hours depending on how much you've selected to transfer.

  5. When the collection phase is done. You will then need to goto your new computer and start on the next part of the transfer process.

New Computer

  1. Start up the File and Settings Transfer Wizard. Select New Computer and click Next.

  2. Since we have already collected the files from the old computer. You do not need to create a Wizard Disk. Choose the last option.

  3. Indicate where you had collected your files. In our example, we had used C:\Stuff

  4. Now the transfer process will begin. The length of the process will depend on the amount of data you are transfering.
