Pomona Network Resources

The Pomona network gives you access to many useful things including storage space, printers, and the internet.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The 5C wireless network (CINE) does not count as the Pomona network. To use use any of the following over wireless, first set up a virtual private network (VPN) connection with Pomona (how?).

Network shares

Network shares are basically remote storage space. Some shares let you store your own files (tempdisk, userspace) while other just supply helpful data (e.g. software).

• Tempdisk - Temporary storage space. Files are deleted once a week.
  • Windows: \\campus.pomona.edu\pomona\tempdisk\public
  • OS X: smb://fargo3.pomona.edu/tempdisk
• Userspace - Your own personal storage space (up to 1 GB). Put whatever you like here. This is a great place to backup your data.
  • Windows:
    • \\campus.pomona.edu\pomona\userspace\student-<year>\<username> (where <year> = year you arrived here) or
    • \\campus.pomona.edu\pomona\userspace\fac-staff\
  • OS X:
    • smb://fargo.pomona.edu/Students/<year>/<username> (where <year> is the year you arrived here) or
    • smb://wells.pomona.edu/FAC-STAFF
• Software - Pomona gives students certain programs for free (e.g. Microsoft Word). The installers for them are here.
  • Windows: \\campus.pomona.edu\pomona\software\PC-Software
  • OS X: smb://fargo3.pomona.edu/macsoftware
• Group space (classes, clubs, organizations) - Userspaces for more than one person.
  • Windows: \\campus.pomona.edu\pomona\groupspace
  • OS X: Ask your professor/organization

Printers

You can access many of Pomona's printers from anywhere on the network (including your dorm room). Doing this requires print quota.

Internet access

You get very speedy internet access through the network. Please make sure you don't exceed the daily transfer limits.
