How to set up a VPN connection (Leopard)

What's a VPN connection?

Setting it up

  1. Open System Prefences and select Network

  2. Click the small plus sign on the botton-left of the screen

  3. Select as below:

  4. Set Server Address to: vpn.pomona.edu
    Set Account Name to your username
    Then click the Authentication Settings... button.

  5. Select Password and enter your password.

  6. Make sure the Show VPN status in menu bar check box is selected and hit Apply

  7. You're set up!

Using it

To connect or disconnect from VPN, click on the new icon in the top-right of your menu bar:

tip You can connect to Pomona's network using VPN even if you're on another campus, at home, or even out of the country. File transfers will be much slower, however.

warning Note: Authentication will fail mysteriously if you're already connected to the Pomona network (i.e. through an ethernet cable or the Pomona wireless network).
