Industry Standard

When shopping for computers, it's very much to your benefit to comparison shop to find the best deal. In order to make this possible, the manufacturers of most computer components conform to industry standards, which mean that any component bearing a certain specification (such as size or speed) must meet certain requirements. So, for example, any FireWire device will work in any FireWire port, and a 200GB hard drive manufactured by Seagate will hold exactly as much information as a 200GB hard drive manufactured by Maxtor. Keep in mind if you are shopping around that there is no industry standard for processor speed, but you can click on the link for more information about how different processors compare.
