Sidebar

A sidebar is a type of secondary interface that provides additional options. For example, look directly to the left of this entry: that's the FAQ's own sidebar. Windows Explorer also uses a left-oriented sidebar which contains useful links, common commands, and other helpful items, the nature of which change depending on where you are and what you've selected.

Many other web pages use sidebars for easy navigation.
