How do I connect to the network using Dial-Up?

Although an ethernet card is standard for computers, Pomona College also offers a Dial-Up connection if you need it.

Windows

Creating a dial-up connection

  1. Go to Start > Control Panel (If you see the words "Pick a category" in big type at the top of the window, click the Switch to Classic View on the left side of the screen). Double-click the Network Connections icon.
  2. On the left side of the window that comes up, click Create a new connection.
  3. The New Connection Wizard will now start and the following window will appear. Click Next to begin.

  9. You can now decide if you want anyone who is logged into your computer to be able to use this connection. Unless there is someone you know who will be using the computer that shouldn't have access, leaving it selected on Anyone's Use is fine. Click Next to continue.

  10. You will now enter your Pomona username (in the form campus\xyz02005) and password. If you have no other dial-up Internet connection on your computer, you may wish to mark the Make this the default internet connection checkbox. Otherwise, leave it blank. Click Next to proceed.
