What is CoolWebSearch?

CoolWebSearch is the name given to the family of some of the most vicious malware around. Once it has silently infected a computer, it hijacks the browser, leading to symptoms that range from obnoxious to incapacitating.

What does CoolWebSearch do to my computer?

Different variants of CoolWebSearch will affect your computer in different ways. Symptoms include:

  • Spontaneous redirection to different websites, some of which are affiliates of CoolWebSearch
  • Addition of "adult" websites to the favorites menu
  • Installation of toolbars
  • Notable slowing down of computer
  • Spontaneous reboots
  • Targeting of anti-spyware websites. Once infected, you may not be able to download spyware removal tools from the web.
  • Spontaneous porn popups
  • Significant slowdowns when attempting to type into a browser
  • Addition of CoolWebSearch.com to the trusted sites list.

How do I get rid of CoolWebSearch?

Manual removal of CoolWebSearch is often nearly impossible, so automated tools are the best way to go.
