Peripheral

The term "peripheral" refers to a piece of hardware outside your computer's case. This includes things like keyboards, speakers, and mice. PC peripherals tend to be interchangeable (i.e. you can plug your Dell speakers into your Gateway computer without something blowing up), while Mac peripherals are usually proprietary, meaning they will only work on other Macs.
