Front Side Bus

The front side bus serves as the link between the CPU and RAM. It is part of the motherboard chipset.

The speed of a system's FSB used to greatly effect performance - nowadays it isn't so critical. Intel processors have traditionally had 800 Mhz and 1066 Mhz FSB speeds, but tests have shown few performance differences between the two. Intel's latest processor, Conrad, promises to have a much slower FSB even though it performs much better than any current processors.

Things are even murkier with AMD processors, as the incorporation of the memory controller onto the processor has in many ways removed the entire bus from the picture. So...yeah, don't worry about it. smile
