Antivirus Program

An antivirus program protects your computer from viruses. It runs "in the background" whenever your computer is turned on, and watches to ensure that viruses do not infect your computer. If a virus is detected, antivirus programs will also help to remove them.

warning Only one antivirus program should be installed. Using multiple anti-virus programs does not increase your level of protection; they can actually interfere with each other and leave your computer more vulnerable to infection, as well as making your computer run much more slowly.

If you have a PC, Pomona requires that you have one of the following three antivirus programs installed:

Unfortunately, Pomona ITS does not support other anti-virus packages such as Panda Platinum, Trend Micro PC-cillin, or Sophos. In order to register your computer for use on the network, you will need to uninstall any such programs and install one of the three options above. We apologize for any inconvenience.
