What happens to my e-mail account when I graduate?

Graduating seniors are going to be given accounts on Pomona's new email system. Not only will this allow you to keep this account for life, it will also give you 2 gigabytes of storage space. This is the same email system that incoming first-years will be using. Your new alumni accounts will be activated in August; you will have one month to move your emails to the new system. Your old account will be deactivated, but emails sent to your old account will automatically redirect to your new account for 90 days. Here are the important dates for you:

  • August 1st, 2007: New alumni email accounts are activated.
  • August 31st, 2007: Old Pomona email accounts are deactivated.
  • October 31st, 2007 (90 days later): Forwarding from old email address ends.

For instructions on moving email to the new system, go here.

If you want to save some or all of the contents of your inbox to your hard drive, check out our instructions for downloading your e-mail.

Note: If you've already graduated and had your account disabled, there is still hope to retrieve your e-mail

My password is about to expire but I can no longer access mypassword.pomona.edu

Pomona passwords expire after 180 days, so chances are that your password also needs to be renewed (changed). However, once you graduate, mypassword.pomona.edu may not work for you anymore. If so, the easiest way to change your password is to set up a Remote Desktop Connection to one of the Pomona lab computers, which will then prompt you when you try to log in.

  • If you're using Windows Vista, you can find Remote Desktop by going to the Start menu and entering Remote Desktop Connection in the search box.

  • If you're using Windows XP, you can find Remote Desktop by going to:
    • Start > All Programs > Accessories > Communications > Remote Desktop Connection

Once you've loaded up RDC, type in pomterm1.pomona.edu for Computer: and click Connect. Log in with your username and old password. When prompted, change your password to something that you can remember for the next 20 minutes.

If you are not prompted to change your password, you can click on Start > Windows Security which will bring up the Windows Security box. Click Change Password and follow instructions given.
